Romantic London: Best places for Dates

If you’re looking for a special date night with your loved one, or an unusual romantic excursion, here’s our guide to the best date ideas in London.

Dine by Candlelight at Clos Maggiore
Clos Maggiore is an oasis of calm in the heart of Covent Garden. Often described as the most romantic restaurant in London, built in the style of Provence and Tuscan country inns, it has a real sense of warmth. Known for its outdoor dining space, the restaurant’s blossom-covered conservatory is fully retractable and in the summer months you can dine solely by candlelight. The food is fantastic; their Provencal cuisine has been awarded AA-rosette awards and with a wine cellar featuring over 2,500 wines, you certainly won’t go thirsty.
Sip Martinis at Dukes Hotel Bar
If it’s cocktails you’re after, you can’t go wrong with Dukes Hotel Bar in Mayfair. Hidden down a quiet cul-de-sac in fancy Mayfair, this luxury boutique hotel is absolutely stunning. It also happens to have the most incredible bar with great martinis and a seriously cool vibe – it’s said to be the inspiration for the James Bond novels. Come for one of their cocktail classics, now famous all around the world, or the Vesper Martini that will knock you for six, but leave you very happy. Perfect for starting off your date night with a kick.
Visit the View from the Shard
The View from the Shard is a must-see in London. As London's highest viewing platform at the top of Western Europe's tallest building, the View from Shard is the only place to take in over 1,000 years of the capital's history all at once. There’s often special events at the Shard, including Silent Discos and Sky High Yoga – so keep your eye out! An adult ticket to the Shard isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it for the incredible views across London with your date.
Take a Stroll through Richmond Park
Richmond Park is one of the nicest spots in London for a Sunday stroll. Every year millions of people flock to Richmond Park, as it’s the largest of the capital's eight Royal Parks and the biggest enclosed space in London. It has great activities for all, such as a National Nature Reserve, London's largest Site of Special Scientific Interest and a European Special Area of Conservation. Come here for spot the herds of red and fallow deer, and walk through lovely Richmond town for a spot of brunch afterwards.
Eat Oysters at J Sheekey
For a celebrity haunt like no other, head to J Sheekey. In the heart of Covent Garden, J Sheekey is a fish and seafood restaurant where you can dine like a star. Tucked away on St Martin’s Lane, the restaurant is the place to come for quality, offering the finest fish, oysters, shellfish and other fruits de mer around. J Sheekey is a stone’s throw from many of the West End’s theatres, which makes it the perfect pre-theatre stop. Come for the finest oysters in town – known for their aphrodisiac qualities, they don’t come better than this!
