Picturesque journeys of discovery from your hotel on Place de la Bourse

Ancient meets modern on Place de la Bourse
Wondering what awaits at your Mercure Bordeaux Centre hotel? You’ll find an array of listed buildings all along the banks of the Garonne. Make sure you check them out at Place de la Bourse – you’ll be instantly impressed!
Relax in spectacular surroundings right by your hotel on Place de la Bourse
Why is it misty in Bordeaux despite the brilliant sunshine? It’s courtesy of the mirror pool, a contemporary installation which reflects Place de la Bourse’s historic façades once the mist has lifted. Built as a tribute to King Louis XV, the square opens out onto the Port de la Lune, which is also another UNESCO World Heritage site. Take the time to walk the length of its buildings and see if you can spot all the gargoyles. These sculpted heads peering out from the tops of doorways and windows figure among Bordeaux’s architectural curiosities. While you’re there, we also recommend the Musée National des Douanes with its spectacular interiors.
Walking from your hotel on Place de la Bourse, within five minutes you’ll spot the lush green banks of the Garonne. There’s something different on every quay: you can stroll beside the water, relax beneath the shade of the trees or savour some local delicacies as you watch the river roll by. Take in the gardens on Quai Louis XVIII during the day but leave the illuminations of the Quai du Maréchal-Lyautey for after dark. If you’ve got a gourmet appetite, cross the stone bridge to head towards the restaurants on the other side of the river. Walk along Quai des Queyries and you’ll get to La Petite Gironde: we recommend it as much for its cuisine made using produce of the local terroir as for its terrace within a huge garden beside the Garonne.
