The Best Events in Glasgow

Glasgow is the third biggest city in the United Kingdom, which means there’s plenty going on, whether you’re into pop or jazz music, comedy or fierce footballing rivalries.

Here are the best Glasgow events you won’t want to miss over the next twelve months.

Revel in the ‘Old Firm’ Rivalry
Glasgow Celtic and Rangers make up the Scottish ‘Old Firm’, which is the collective term for the fierce – and often hostile – rivalry between Scotland’s two biggest football clubs.

Watching an Old Firm match is on most football fan’s bucket lists, and should be on yours too – especially if you’re in Glasgow when the clubs lock horns, which they’ve been doing since 1888.

Celtic play at Celtic Park and Rangers call Ibrox home, with match tickets available online throughout the season, although they’re in higher demand when they play against each other.
Embrace the Summer at TRNSMT Festival
Glasgow Green, in the city’s east end, has played host to TRNSMT Festival since July 2017, when 150,000 revellers watched the likes of Radiohead and Scottish heroes, Biffy Clyro.

Organised as a replacement for the now-defunct T in The Park, TRNSMT has gone from strength to strength, and looks set to be a mainstay of the raucous summer Scottish festival circuit.

From the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Liam Gallagher in 2018, to Stormzy and Catfish and The Bottlemen in 2019, whichever year you go, expect a star-studded lineup of the biggest pop acts around.
Loosen Up at Glasgow Jazz Festival (June)
Glasgow Jazz Festival, founded in 1987, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016, when George Benson, Carol Kidd, Joe Bonamassa, amongst others, woo’d festival crowds.

Iconic jazz stars like Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles and Jimmy Smith have all graced the stage at the festival which runs annually each June in venues across the city centre.

The festival has grown since the eighties, with over 300 musicians performing across 40 different shows during 2018, and organisers expecting their event to become even bigger over the coming years.
Laugh Out Loud at Glasgow International Comedy Festival (March)
Glasgow International Comedy Festival, which is well into its second decade, having started a couple of years into the new Millennium, is a solid fixture on the city’s events calendar.

While Edinburgh might steal the limelight when it comes to comedy, Glasgow’s own comedy extravaganza packs its own punch lines, especially with many famous names lining up alongside up-and-coming comics.

2019 saw irreverent comedy legend Limmy on stage, while Andy Zaltzman brought his ever-popular podcast The Bugle to the city. Pub landlord, Al Murray, was also in town, over the three-week-long festival of belly laughs.

Alan Carr is set to bring his Terribly Funny show to the SEC Armadillo in 2020, with much more to be announced over the months leading up to the festival start in March.
