Add a Welsh touch to your wedding: The best places in Cardiff to tie the knot

Looking for somewhere special for your big day? Have a look at these romantic wedding venues and you’ll be saying ‘I do’ to Cardiff in no time.

There’s something magical about a Welsh wedding. Maybe it’s the dramatic backdrop of Cardiff Castle, or the way the light hits the water, or the lush green countryside that’s the perfect accompaniment to photos. Whatever it is, weddings in Cardiff are quite simply a dream come true.
The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
Located in the picturesque Bute Park, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama is a quintessential part of Cardiff. The Anthony Hopkins Centre is actually in the original Cardiff Castle stables building and has two minimalist rooms available for small weddings. As you’d expect for an arts building, it’s all about drama here – the tree-lined avenue of Bute Park is ideal for an old-fashioned horse and buggy entrance, or you can even arrive via water taxi from Cardiff Bay. From the venue, you’ll have view of the Cardiff Castle from the contemporary glass atrium and outdoor terrace, while the world-class concert hall and theatre are available for your exclusive use. To top off your night, you can hire performers from the College itself, whether it’s a string quartet or live jazz band.
The St. David’s Hotel & Spa
This 5-star luxury hotel is one of the most sought after Welsh wedding venues and boasts prime position with panoramic views across Cardiff Bay. The hotel itself is a modern and elegant affair, with three wedding suites available for parties from 20 to 350 guests. The St. David’s Hotel and Spa can take care of everything, from setting wedding breakfast menus to liaising with suppliers and caterers to ensure your perfect day is exactly that. The prestigious in-house spa is also a great way to relax with your bridal party before the big day, and guests have the option to stay over in the stylish rooms after the event.
Cardiff Castle
One of the most beautiful Cardiff wedding venues is Cardiff Castle itself. The historic landmark has several options available – for the ceremony, you can choose between the 15th century stone-vaulted Undercroft, and the more intimate Guest Tower Rooms. For the reception, you can dine in the medieval Banqueting Hall where the Marquess of Bute once used to eat, or take your first dance as husband and wife under the stars on the rooftop terrace.
Mansion House
For a fairytale wedding, you can’t ignore Mansion House, once the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. After undergoing a full refurbishment in 1998, the Mansion House is now available for exclusive use for private events and functions, including both civil ceremonies and weddings. Take your photos in the stunning gardens and ornate suites, then enjoy a decadent wedding breakfast prepared by some of the city’s top chefs. Your dedicated wedding coordinator can work with parties of any size and has beautiful options for every budget.
St Fagans National History Museum
If you’ve been dreaming of an outdoor wedding, St Fagans specialises in marquee receptions for up to 140 seated guests on the lovely green lawns in front of St Fagans Castle, just a 20-minute drive from Cardiff city centre. The large open-air museum chronicles Welsh history, lifestyle and culture, but is also available for exclusive wedding hire. There are over 40 historic buildings in St Fagans, with St Fagans Castle and the Oakdale Workmen’s Institute open for weddings. Catering is provided by Elior UK and the menu boasts seasonal produce and traditional Welsh delicacies, all which can be adapted to your personal tastes. There are also afternoon tea and pampering days if you’d like to include your hen’s day celebrations!
