Good, yet can do better

On the whole it was a good overnight stay with stunning surroundings and excellent food in the evening. There is some small room for improvement especially with the breakfast - instead of self service I would much prefer freshly prepped breakfast and a choice with the egg…scrambled is ok, yet would have been nice to have a choice. Also no mushrooms on a breakfast menu?….whats with that. Also there is scope for a revamp with non-alcoholic beers too as there is plenty out there yet Becks Blue was the only choice in the hotel plus the price was way too expensive. The corridor air freshener spray was a bit overpowering too….almost as if the hotel was trying to hide a bad smell. Also it wasn’t pointed out to us at reception or beforehand that we needed to hire the spa robes and slippers…..it would have been nice to have been informed before we cane so we could either decide to hire or bring our own.

Lovely Hotel.

We stayed here to have a night away as a couple. Approaching the hotel was an experience itself. Stratford is a beautiful place anyway, but this long drive way surrounded by beautiful country got us even more excited about our stay. The grounds were spectacular, well kept and loved gardens as well as lovely architectural buildings. The hotel was very spacious and clean with amazing staff. The staff in all departments was excellent, however the Reception team made it outstanding. Unfortunately our first room had no running hot water in the shower, so this meant leaving our room to go to reception and asking for a room change. Which they did without question and with lots of sympathy. Nothing was too much trouble. One staff member called Lena (Who was fairly new to the team) went above and beyond for us. And later in the evening she found us in the bar around and approached us to make sure our new room was better for us, a true credit to the team. All staff members were brilliant, the restaurant that evening was very busy but the staff did a fantastic job. However, the bar prices let down this hotel massively. I will display a picture of the bar menu so it will be better to understand. To have a double shot of a spirit was over double the price of a single! For example, if you wanted a double rum and coke, it would be cheaper to ask for two single shots of rum and a coke… It was way too expensive. The breakfast was nice with a hot and cold selection of food… however was not worth £16 (per person). The cold meat selection felt like it was left over packet ham you buy at a supermarket. The spa was a little out dated, the showers were not powerful enough and just trickled down your back. We did stay during the Easter break, and the children’s swim session was running from check in until 7pm…so it got very busy for a long time and wasn’t very relaxing like a spa should be. Overall, the staff made our experience, some rooms could do with a bit of TLC/ upgrade. But we would stay again.

Beautiful location, poor service

This was a weekend getaway, location is beautiful, great place for long walks, however the service and food let’s this hotel down. At check in there was no greeting, reception staff were trying to call housekeeping, to enquire if rooms were ready a queue formed behind us, still no acknowledgment from the staff. After check in we went to the bar, I asked for a glass of Sauvignon, bar staff ( female) asked if I wanted white or rose, I chose white but got rose, when I said I wanted white, there was no apology just turned around and got the correct wine. No smile not friendly. We decided to have dinner on site, in the hotel restaurant, once I saw the menu I wished we had gone elsewhere. The mains choices part of the menu was worse than a pub menu, 2 different burgers, a tufu & chicken curry, fish & chips, pasta with pulled beef (this sounded awful) Caesar salad and pizza. Needless to say I just had a stater, my husband had the Caesar salad, and after a few mouthfuls could not eat as it was too salty. We paid our bill by leaving cash in the binder the bill was presented to us and left. As we were about to enter our room a waiter ran after us saying we had left without paying. Didn’t find any of the staff friendly at all, the menu and food were awful, would not return.

Poor menu, ended up going to local pub on first night and into Warwick to eat for the 2nd night, which was a real shame as the idea was to spend the whole weekend there relaxing. No changing room available for gents. Was told rather rudely by the male spa reception guy to go back to my room to get changed and then when I’m finished in the pool I would have to walk back to my room again in my wet shorts and the cold wind and rain to get showered & changed. I was not happy with this at all.
