Mokattam Mountain

Ideal for a road trip to the east of Cairo, The Mokattam Mountain, arguably the only real mountain in Cairo, makes for a pleasant drive and breathtaking view. This mountain holds great historical value to Egypt and is even the subject of a Coptic legend that a saint named Simon Tanner, once phenomenally moved the entire mountain. Besides the spectacular view at the top of the mountain, the main cathedral of Mokattam Mountain is located inside a cave and biblical sculptures done by Polish artists are plenty. The Mokattam Corniche vies with the Nile Corniche in Cairo, accommodating a number of cafes and shops, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a local snack.
