Ismailia

El Saam District

Culture of a city brings some of the most beautiful design elements of its buildings and lends a voice to their design inspiration and history, especially when it is a building of historical importance. A visual known to a few are the eye-catching pillars at the entrance to the Suez Canal University. The giant columnar pillars are painted with Egyptian symbols that are a pictorial representation of the ancient Egyptian language. Some of the symbols used on these pillars include the ‘eye of Ra’, which is a symbol of protection from all evil, and the colourful artwork represents chakra colours that are meant to from a connection between mind, body and spirit. Established in 1976, the university has its faculties divided among the Suez Canal governorates (Port Said, Suez & Ismailia Governorates), and has special units to support education, non-classical research and community development in the region.
