The Kokkai-gijid?mae metro station connecting the Marunouchi and Chiyoda lines is one of the deepest in the city. It goes as far as 38 meters underground. Legend says that it served as a bomb shelter until the 1950s. Even more interesting, there is a secret door in the station that leads to the basement of the Chamber of Representatives, not far away. For what reason? To allow government officials to evacuate the city in case of a major catastrophe, such as a nuclear attack.
