Jim Thompson House & Museum, Rama I Road

Secret History
The Jim Thompson House Museum is home to Thai silk, arts and architectures owned by Jim Thompson, an American who first came to Thailand as part of the military precursor of the CIA during the World War II. The house was designed and built on teak pillars, a full floor above the ground, situated on the bank of the Saen Saeb canal.

Even though the house was designed in traditional fashion, most of the modern facilities such as electricity and plumbing were implemented. The house became talk of the town, and was ultimately opened to the public after Thompson's "mysterious" disappearance while visiting his friends in the Malaysian Cameron Highlands.

The house today well represents "East meets West" and a series of Thompson's collections including a 17th Century standing Buddha,  a wooden hand-carved figurine, wall hangings and other decorations that are well blended between local and western styles.
