Opened in 1940, Cloudland Dance Hall was—if its founder T.H. Eslick is to be believed—the “best ballroom in the Southern Hemisphere”. It is a fact that for several decades stars appeared there regularly and there were many legendary concerts. Until the place was demolished n 1982. Since then, a monument located in a small garden on Cowlishaw Street pays tribute to Cloudland. In front of the grand arch recalling the old entrance of the hall, nostalgic souls gather.
