CHILL OUT BY THE WATER

Vienna

Danube Canal

The Danube Canal has been transformed in recent years: from a not very inviting asphalt promenade to the ‘in’ place for people to meet in Vienna. Pubs and restaurants, burger outlets like It’s All About The Meat Baby, and trendy beach bars like Tel Aviv Beach have conquered the waterside. As soon as the first rays of spring sunshine peep through the cloud cover, it seems as if half of Vienna is sitting in the comfortable beach loungers at the water’s edge. There’s an urban holiday mood here all year round. The best way to take in the spirit of the canal is to walk along the bank from the Aspernbrücke bridge to Spittelau station, passing the food areas, some of the city’s most creative pieces of graffiti and street art, and the countless joggers who run along the promenade every day. It is particularly colourful here at night, when the red, yellow and blue lights from the bridges are reflected in the Danube. Take your camera and get snapping – you can’t go wrong.
