As you stroll around the streets of Auxerre, it is impossible not to be tempted by a glass of local wine. You can’t get more local than a winery within the town of Auxerre itself. The urban wine estate of the prestigious Clos de la Chaînette lies between the old town and the newer neighbourhoods to the north. The vineyard is one of the oldest in France. Not only that, but from 1890 to the mid-1970s, its vines were cultivated by residents of a psychiatric ward.
