Nuits Saint Georges

Who hasn't heard of Burgundy's vineyards? The region’s reputation for fine vintages is known around the world. But did you know that their renown goes beyond our planet? It all started in 1971, when some American astronauts passed through the Clos Vougeot region. Here, growers from Nuits-Saint-Georges gifted them with a few bottles of Terre-Lune 1969. Their mission? To leave a bottle on the moon! By sending a telegram to Nuits-Saint-Georges' town hall, Astronaut David Scott of the Apollo 15 mission announced his intention to name a crater after the vintage, which was referenced in Jules Verne's novel From the Earth to the Moon. With this small but symbolic gesture, Scott baptised the crater St. George. According to the astronaut, wine is the 'best liquid fuel'. So, rather than going all the way to the moon, you can visit its sister city instead!
