A HOTEL SOAKED IN HISTORY

Brides-les-Bains

Parc Thermal, Allée de la source

Built around 1840, what is today the Mercure Grand Hôtel des Thermes quickly became a favourite hangout for high society. The area's elite stole away to this thermal spa resort to relax out of the public eye. Hidden in the pages of the guest register is an eclectic assortment of prominent personalities. They range from Prince Orloff, whose title and name are forever attached to the famous veal dish, to the Countess of Montgomery, first editor of the magazine Marie-Claire. Even today, hotel guests cross paths with celebrities, but we couldn't possibly tell you who! Oh, and there's another secret. To find out what it is, head to the dining room. On the back wall is a marvellous example of the predecessor to modern wallpaper. Manufactured by the Zuber factory, this décor comes from the El Dorado countryside and was made on wooden boards dating back to 1848 – it’s even listed as a historic monument. A beautiful illustration of French heritage for all to admire and enjoy.
