HAPPINESS AMONG THE TREES

Dinan

Église Saint-Malo

The citizens of Dinan aren't content to live merely by the sea. They also enjoy the good life amid majestic trees, such as the splendid magnolia that has stood next to Saint Malo Church since 1850. The city boasts other exotic specimens, though none as famous as the cream-coloured superstar, which is photographed by tourists from all over the world. A ginkgo biloba, or maidenhair tree, sits in the Jardin des Anglais and an araucaria, or monkey puzzle tree – one of the first introduced in Brittany – watches over the cemetery. The latter, most likely imported from Chile, joined the magnolia on the much-envied list of Remarkable Trees in 2015 – a label reserved for exceptional vegetation. One thing's for sure: nature lovers will feel right at home in Dinan.
