AN OLD CLOCK THAT (ALMOST) DISAPPEARED

Sweeping curves, sinuous perspectives, little islands of green stretching out towards the big blue… welcome to the architectural utopia created by Jean Balladur in 1968. His unique work is now deemed an example of ‘Heritage of the Twentieth Century’. The jewel of the collection? Saint Augustin Church. But the curves of this building, constructed in 1975, also hide the one remaining hint of the past in the resort. Located to the left of the town hall, the structure doesn’t really resemble a church at all. Here’s a clue: this object regularly makes a sound. Take a look at the roof for the large oval curve of white concrete that covers the church. Inside this circle stands a large bell from 1603 on which you can read ‘Mon ton appelle ton peuple’ (My tone calls your people). This bell with its inscription is the only remaining historical part of the complex.
