A SECRET CHAPEL UNDER THE COBBLESTONES

Le Mans

7-13 rue de la Reine Bérengère, 72000 Le Mans

Known for its legendary race course, Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans also has a beautiful historic centre. Make your way to 7-13 Rue de la Reine-Bérengère to admire its half-timbered houses. Who could suspect that right there, tucked away under the Reine-Bérangère Museum, is one of the best-kept secrets of Le Mans? There's an unusual chapel located several metres under the ground. What is it doing there? We don't know much about this secret room, apart from that it was furnished in the 19th century by collector Adolphe Singher. The story goes that he had a medieval chapel rebuilt in his basement. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit it. But you will agree it is an incredible story – worthy of a novel by Alexandre Dumas.
