Your darling.” That, or something similar, is what Confectioner Papillot’s apprentice wrote to his chérie. He pilfered several sweets and wrapped them in his love note. Old Papillot found him out, and showed his apprentice the door, but kept the charming idea. Thus was born the papillotte, a sweet wrapped inside a note, now traditionally given at Christmas time.
