It is not easy to live in the shadow of a celebrity. Everyone knows Mont Saint Michel, but few people know that the island has a little brother. Unknown to the public, Tombelaine is a small nugget of land lost in the bay. Against all odds, this granite islet has been the scene of many adventures over the centuries. Strange but true: this almost totally barren place used to be home to an imposing fortress several metres high. Today, its ruins still bear witness to this rich past. “Conquering” it requires some bravery, but you can get there at low tide by taking an athletic hike through the sand. Tombelaine island is worth the effort.
