Is there really an underground lake below the basement of Saint Sernin Basilica? And can an ancient treasure be found in its depth? In 278 BC, after the pillage of Delphi Temple, a Celtic tribe brought the booty to Toulouse. But with the gold came misfortune. As soon as the looters arrived, an epidemic broke out in the city. The spoils were thus drowned in the underground lake. No doubt this is a tall tale. Nevertheless, the Baron of Lamothe-Langon, subprefect of Toulouse, decided to find out once and for all in 1811. He discovered a door hidden in the crypt of the basilica, went down a staircase of 132 steps, and found himself in front of a lake of "black waters, deep and silent". But alas, no sign of the treasure. Perhaps you will stumble across that hidden passage, follow in the baron's footsteps and maybe find the gold...
