Torre Pelosa - Piazza della Torre

Built around the year 1500 to prevent pirate attacks, Bari’s watchtowers are still visible all along its coastline.
Tall, stocky, and isolated, all towers were built according to precise rules: they were to be erected by a channel, 2.5 miles apart from one another, and connected to the castles along the coast; they were to be square-sectioned, have windows along their sides, and lookouts on the terrace.
Among the few towers still remaining, the Torre Pelosa – placed at the center of the square in the Torre a Mare neighborhood – is worth checking out.
