Porta di Mare (literally “door of the sea”) has greeted visitors to Bari since time immemorial. Facing the port of Bari, what is now called Piazza del Ferrarese still today is stepped on by thousands of visitors who come from the sea and enter the heart of Bari. As well as representing one of the entrances to the city, a restoration of the piazza has unearthed an ancient road: the proof of more visitors and travellers, even in the Roman Ages.
