Marketing and presents aside, the Saint, originating in Turkey, performed many miracles towards children, he is the patron of Russia and Turkey, resting in the crypt under the altar at the Basilica di Bari.
He saved a child from boiling water, freed an infant from an aggressor and saved another who was being attacked by a demon.
This is why in all of the protestant world Saint Nicholas is the protector of young children and the one who brings presents to children of all ages.
