Campanone e meridiana in Piazza Vecchia e Duomo

The area between Piazza Vecchia and the Duomo is not for the sluggish nor the inaccurate. Adjust your watch to the sundial under the Palazzo della Ragione (the “palace of reason”) arches: at 12 sharp, a beam of light will shine through the hole in the shield and will indicate to you the exact time. Alternatively, the 100 tolls of the Campanone bell will tell you it is 10 p.m., the time when the doors of the city were once closed. Between the two entrances of the Cathedral, you will still find the iron bars that established the measure of length in Medieval times. So, don’t go ballpark in Bergamo Alta!
