HAMLET OF THE KNOWLEDGE TO SEE

Bergamo

Borgo Pignolo

The Bergamasque people have nicknamed it Hamlet of knowledge due to the literature department at the University of Bergamo and because of the intellectuals who walk along the roads. Everyone knows it as Pignolo Hamlet, an area half-way between the upper and lower part of the city, enclosed by the San Michele Church, the Santo Spirito Church and the Carrara Academy. Apart from the big buildings for culture, the roads are invaded by art galleries, craftsman’s shops and antique dealers which give the hamlet an artistic and bohemian feel. If you wish to get your fill of beauty, try to note the row of senior buildings and the view opening out over the Sant’Agostino gate.
