Basilica di Santo Stefano - Via Santo Stefano

The Basilica di Santo Stefano (Saint Stephen’s basilica) is popularly known as “the Seven Churches”, although only four remain to this day.
There are three fun facts that make this church complex truly unique. The crypt of St. John the Baptist hosts a column from the Holy Land representing the height of Jesus Christ. The same church hosts a papier-mâché Lamentation of Christ, referencing the holy figures created with playing cards at inns and taverns as a request for absolution of sins. Finally, on the outer part of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre there is a black stone: do not try to use it as a mirror like women did in the past, as a spell made it become fully opaque.
