Cimitero monumentale della Certosa - Via della Certosa 18

Have no fear, visits to the cemetery no longer require customs clearance. Tourists who go to cemeteries worldwide, to historical places of great architectural and artistic value, should go to Bologna’s Certosa. Founded in 1801, starting with the structures of a convent, Certosa is one of Europe's major monumental cemeteries, and a treasure of the city of Bologna. Around the heart of the churchyard, the Third Cloister in neoclassical style, a development of painted tombs can be seen, then followed by artwork in stucco, marble and bronze. Monasteries, lodgings and edifices conserve paintings and sculptures to commemorate important personages like painter Giorgio Morandi, the Nobel Giosuè Carducci, founders of the Maserati and Ducati companies and of the Zanichelli editing company. In summer there is a series of appointments among which concerts, shows and visits enlivening the Certosa: only for the brave.
