Legend tells that the iron hooks inset in the façade of Palazzo Pepoli were used by the representatives of one of the most illustrious families in Medieval Bologna to dock their boats, used as urban transportation along the Savena channel. Truth be told, Bologna had numerous water channels that were once navigable; but the Savena didn’t have a sufficient flow rate for boats to move along it. The arch-shaped hooks with a serpent head decoration were no other than horse parking spots.
