Built after the catastrophic earthquake in 1693 over a few surviving 1500s bastions, Palazzo Biscari is one of the most ancient buildings in town, and one of the prime examples of the Sicilian Baroque. With its “princess apartments”, Rococo-style party halls, and marble floors, Palazzo Biscari was born to stun, just like the wise and ironic narration of its current owner, who embellishes it with anecdotes and fun facts. Among its most illustrious guests, there is certainly Goethe – who admired its beauty on a famous trip across Sicily – and more recently the British band Coldplay, who came here to film the video for Violet Hill.
