There is an old legend related to the base of the equestrian statue of the Grand Duke Ferdinand I de' Medici.
On the front side of the base there is a plaque – sculpted by Pietro Tacca at a later time compared to Giambologna’s statue – illustrating a swarm of bees around their queen.
It might just be the circular disposition of the insects, but it seems impossible to count the number of bees without touching them nor pointing at them: the legend, in fact, tells that those few who will guess the number only by using their eyesight will be eternally fortunate.
