Fontana del Porcellino - Piazza del Mercato Nuovo

The bronze wild boar under the awning of the Mercato Nuovo market, known as the Fontana del Porcellino (the piglet fountain), is an obligatory stop for the tourists of Florence. The superstition says to rub its extremely shiny nose, put a coin in its mouth, and hope it will fall in the grating and water underneath. Along with this good luck ritual, the boar is famous also because it appears in dozens of stories. Andersen wrote a fairy tale about him, and the hog also appears in Hogwarts School both on the staircase and in the Room of Requirement, in two of the episodes of the Harry Potter saga.
