Caterina Campodonico, a humble lady who sold peanuts and doughnuts, was known by the people of Genoa as Cattainin dae reste, and had a dream: to become a noble, but especially to be remembered forever. She gathered her life savings, contacted the artist Lorenzo Orengo, and commissioned him a memorial statue to place, according to her will, in the Staglieno monumental cemetery. The peanut seller remains the same, holding her trademark sweets in her hands, but she now stands next to the figures that made Genoa great.
