GENOA CRICKET AND ATHLETIC CLUB

Genoa

Luigi Ferraris City Stadium - Via Giovanni de Prà 1

Italian football, in its modern version, was born in Genoa. If cricket had always been considered a sport for the wealthy who preferred to avoid the muddy game of football, this group of Englishmen took the popular nature of the latter to the next level: they opened the club to Italians, they used the Sampierdarena port field for both training and games, and used the symbol of Genoa, the griffin, as the team’s emblem.
