Two identical churches and one great love.
This is the hidden story behind Santa Maria Incoronata, a construction made of two apparently identical churches, one beside the other.
In reality, the church on the left is the result of a restoration in gothic style of an existing monument. Since it was completed on the occasion of Francesco Sforza’s election, the church was dedicated both to Santa Maria Incoronata (St. Mary the Crowned) and to the new Duke of Milan.
A few years later, the duke’s wife Bianca Maria Visconti decided to build a new church, identical and communicating with the original church dedicated to her husband.
