Cinema Teatro Trieste - Via Antonio Pacinotti, 6

The trani were the Milanese version of the traditional “osterie” (inns). The relationship between Milan and the Apulia region dates all the way back to the late 1800s, when due to a conflict over customs charges the Apulians were banned from selling their wine in France, and therefore they started opening wineries selling unbottled wine in Milan, which soon became quite popular. These were called trani (deriving from the name of the wine-making town next to Bari: Trani), Apulian inns that dethroned the piole (a version managed by natives of the Piedmont region) and offered Trani wine at a price accessible to all. Back then wine was quite strong, and a fundamental energy source for farmers, so much as to be nicknamed “drinkable meat”. The Cinema Teatro Trieste, only 400 meters away from the Hotel Mercure Milan Regency, is a modern-day trano: good wine, tasty food, and shows running all year long.
