The mandolin, a small string instrument with a sweet and melodic sound, is a Neapolitan invention that has conquered Italy and the world. Created in 1600 by the luthiers of Casa Vinaccia, and immediately an instrument of the people, the mandolin has also earned a place in numerous classical sonatas – from Vivaldi, to Mozart, to Beethoven – as well as its very own museum. A group of mandolin players and lovers has founded the Casa del Mandolino (house of the mandolin), a space where anyone can learn the characteristics of the musical instrument, listen to concerts, and take lessons. The musical tradition of Naples continues.
