Choose a number, invest some loose change, and hope to win more than what you bet: this is the mechanism of the Lottery, a 100% Genovese invention, not Neapolitan as many may think. There are hints of similar games in Ancient Egyptian and Roman civilizations, but the modern version of the Lotto was born in Palazzo Ducale (the Doge’s Palace) at the end of the 1500s, and its rules were established just a few years later.
