LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: THE SEA

Olbia

Anfiteatro Michelucci - Via Cesare Pavese 64

The use planned by the architect who designed it in 1990 – the Tuscan Giovanni Michelucci – was for the theater to serve as a sentinel overlooking the sea and protecting the city.
The structure is conceived for opera shows with a backdrop of nature: in fact, the 1640-ft long stage is built with the gulf of Olbia in the background, as well as part of the city skyline. Along with the amphitheater, a turret hosts the changing rooms and a documentation center including a multimedia space and a library.
Unfortunately a city administration capable of organizing a program of shows at the theater is yet to be seen. In the meanwhile, the shining white structure captures the dazzled looks of all visitors.
