MARKETS BY NIGHT

MARKETS BY NIGHT

Palermo

Piazza Caracciolo

La Vucciria, Il Capo, and Ballarò are the most known historic markets of Palermo, that are still very popular today as places to buy fresh fruit, meat, fish etc. The sellers, just like in the past, continue to abbanniare (shout) to attract passer-byers to buy their goods and witness a true open-air show made of stories and anecdotes. In the past few years, the markets have become original hubs of the Palermo nightlife, engaging young men and women and not only: after the fish and fruit stands close, with the balate paving still wet, they transform into small bars where visitors may taste the Palermo street food. Background music will never be lacking, as the old town comes to life and the new generations rediscover the stories, traditions, and forgotten words of the Sicilian capital.
