Palermo

Piazza Croce dei Vespri, 6

The Leopard is a historical novel written during the Sicilian Risorgimento. Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa was indeed inspired by his own family and in particular the prince Fabrizio, a fascinating man who carefully observed the fall of his social class and the rise of the bourgeoisie. The novel was in turn of inspiration to Luchino Visconti who, in 1963, created one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian cinema, winner of the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Festival, 3 Nastro d'Argento awards, and a David di Donatello award. The setting chosen for the famous ball scene was the marvelous Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi. An enchanted location, see it to believe it.
