Qanats - Via Bara all'Olivella 67

Put on your rubber boots, raincoat, and miner’s helmet, and creep 50 feet underground to visit Palermo’s qanats. The excavations and tunnels that run underneath the Via Nave area make up a network that, both in its name and in its structure, are inspired by the Arab sewers and, through a complex system of slopes, had the function of bringing water to houses and agricultural areas. Differently from the oriental tunnels, the qanats of Palermo were not fed by water wells, but were connected directly to springs by means of channels. Contact the Palermo Cultour organization and dive in to a qanat!
