WHAT A SHAMEFUL PIAZZA!

Pretoria Square is known by all Palermites as the Piazza of Shame due to the fountain being positioned in the centre of the square. After seeing the dimensions of the sculpture, many houses were knocked down to make room for the great big fountain by artist Francesco Camiliani. Initially designed for his Florentine villa, it was subsequently bought by the city's senate. The vertical jet coming from the centre of a great tub with staircases coming out of it and there are smaller fountains. On the base which encloses the sculpture in an ellipsis there are statues of bare women and men which scandalised the citizens, also because they were to become the symbol of a corrupt government.
