Just like Pesaro, even Dublin, Rome, and New York have their versions of the Sphere Within Sphere by Giò Pomodoro.
The artist, born just a few miles away from Pesaro, and his sphere have been appreciated all across the world, but the Sfera Grande (big sphere) is present in the Umbrian city itself, lying on the artificial lake on the seaside promenade.
The “palla di Pomodoro” (Pomodoro ball), as the locals call it, is one of the reference points of the city, often used to give directions to tourists moving around the city, and for the people of Pesaro it represents an element that, along with the beach and old town, means home.
