Fontana - Piazza del Popolo

Still today, especially following modern restoration, the fountain known as Fontana di Piazza del Popolo still preserves its original nickname, “pupilla di Pesaro” (Pesaro’s pupil), and is a main reference point for its citizens.
Originally built in the late 1500s, the fountain commissioned by the Della Rovere nobles bears the signs of key events in the family timeline: eight mascarons were added to it to celebrate the birth of Prince Federico, and dolphins and other decorations were added in honor of his wedding.
Destroyed during the Second World War, it was completely rebuilt in Istrian stone and Verona marble, regaining its role as the central fountain and pride of all the people of Pesaro.
