In 2009 an apse was found in the Reggio Emilia cathedral. The supervision called the mosaic “one of the most interesting carpets of stone in Northern Italy due to its size, sophistication and technical implementation.” The treasure, found at a depth of two metres during church restortation work, is made of stone tiles, vitreous paste and some of it in gold laminate. Judging by the Dionysian scenes depicting humans, animals and fruit, it is likely that there may be another one under the religious building dedicated to Bacchus.
