Domus del chirurgo (the surgeon’s house), the office in Piazza Luigi Ferrari, has existed for almost 2000 years, and the doctor, most likely called Eutiche, is probably no longer in practice.
What is certain are the remains of the building in which he worked: in the various rooms decorated with mosaics, frescoes, statues and furniture, there is still a waiting room, an examination room, and an operation room. The domus also hosts 150 surgical instruments, including jars to prepare hand-made medication and numerous tools to cure wounded soldiers, in fact the most ancient and richest collection of such tools in the world.
The doctor’s richness found there is no less worthy of notice: 80 coins, many of which silver!
