The cemetery rising in the Testaccio neighborhood, enclosed on one end by the Aurelian Walls and on the other by another funerary monument, the Pyramid of Cestius, is called in many ways. First of all it is the cemetery for all those with non-Catholic, or in general non-religious, beliefs, like the politician Antonio Gramsci, married to a Russian woman. Lots of tombs are written with English text, giving it the name of the English or Protestant cemetery, although in reality it hosts the remains of Germans, Greeks, Swedes, and Romanians too. But most people know it as the Cemetery of Artists and Poets, because important characters the likes of John Keats, Percy Shelley, Carlo Emilio Gadda and Arnoldo Foà rest there. An island of peace with a unique signature.
