Siracusa

Museo archeologico regionale Paolo Orsi - Viale Teocrito 66

“This is woman how she is. The way we love her, how we desire her and how we want to embrace her.” Thus the amorous inscription written by Guy de Maupassant for Venere Landolina, on the marble sculpture named after the archeologer who found her. It is preserved at the Paolo Orsi archeological museum. The carving of Venus is likely to be of when she is coming out of the water and her only remaining hand is holding the shroud.
