From a spurt, to a tank, to a fountain: water has always been a key element of the Santuario della Madonna dei Campi.
One of the miraculous episodes attributed to the Virgin Mary dates back to a day of May in the late 1500s: a large quantity of water started spraying from a pillar of the church on which an image of the Virgin and Child was placed.
This phenomenon lasted several months and the faithful, attracted by the water, could also take advantage of its benefits.
Someone thus thought of collecting it in a tank inside the church, to which a second tank was added just outside, and both remained full until the fount dried out.
Today, what remains is the fountain at the church entrance in memory of one of the greatest feats by the Madonna dei Campi.
