Stezzano

Piazza Libertà

Around the 1920s, the Bergamo tramline was expanded to the bordering towns, reaching all the way to Stezzano. The initially steam-powered vehicle was replaced not long after by a more modern, electric-powered version, which still stopped in the little town, as well as in Lodi, Treviglio, and back to Bergamo. In June 1926 Stezzano celebrated the arrival of the first electric wagon in the main piazza, where the tram stop was located. Unfortunately the line was suppressed in the 1950s, and the screeching sound of the wheels on the tracks is no longer to be heard in the square once dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II.
